Personal Licence Holder Courses in Glasgow

If you are looking to sell or authorise the sale of alcohol in Glasgow, East Kilbride, Paisley, Hamilton, Motherwell or the surrounding areas then you will require a personal licence. A personal licence is granted to an individual by the local Councils Licensing Board where the individual lives. To obtain a personal licence in Glasgow City you will need to undertake training on the Licensing Act 2005 for Scotland. This training course is known as the Scottish Certificate for Personal Licence Holders (SCPLH) Level 6.

About the licence

Once granted a personal licence is valid for ten years and will allow an individual to sell or authorise sales of alcohol under a premises licence or occasional licence. However refresher training is required before the 5th Anniversary of the licence, and every 5 years there after. A personal licence will also enable an individual to be nominated on a premises licence at the Designated Premises Manager (DPM) commonly known as the licensee.
 
To become a Scottish personal licence holder individuals will need to apply to their local Councils Licensing Board. Applicants may be refused a licence if they have any relevant criminal convictions. The Police will check each application using various methods to endorse each new applicant, this may include a PNC check, telephone interview or formal interview at the Police Station.
 
Personal Licence Scotland can complete the full application process on your behalf for a one of fee of only £275 including VAT or if you prefer you can undertake your training and exam only and make your own application to the Licensing Board for only £165 including VAT, examination and SCPLH course handbook.
 
Personal licence courses are held every two weeks in Glasgow and also frequently in our other venues across Scotland. Course duration is one day only, from 9am hours until 5pm.
 

About your examination

At the end of the days training all delegates will sit a 40 question multiple choice examination paper. The required pass mark is 70%. Certification is awarded by BIIAB Scotland which is an acceptable licensing qualification to all Licensing Boards in Scotland.
